598 Error

A 598 Network Read Timeout Error is an informal proxy-specific code for:

“The network proxy timed out while waiting for data from the upstream server.”

A 598 Network Read Timeout Error is an informal status code used by some network proxies and Microsoft caching gateways.

It indicates that the proxy server encountered a read timeout while waiting for a response from the destination web server behind the gateway.

Determining why

The proxy established a network connection, but when reading data packets from the destination server, the data transfer stalled and exceeded the proxy’s read timeout limit.

Steps you could possibly take:

  • Reload the page - Re-request the page to see if network congestion cleared.
  • Bypass local proxy - If using an enterprise or school proxy, test from an unproxied connection or cellular data.
  • If you are the network administrator - Inspect proxy gateway logs and verify network latency to the target server.
