A 498 Invalid Token error is an unofficial HTTP status code introduced by Esri ArcGIS for Server.
It indicates that the request was submitted with an authentication token that is expired, malformed, or unrecognized by the ArcGIS identity manager.
Determining why
ArcGIS web maps, feature services, and geocoding APIs use short-lived access tokens to secure geographical data. If a mapping application runs in a browser tab past the token’s expiration window, subsequent map tile requests fail with a 498 error.
Steps you could possibly take:
- Refresh the mapping application - Reloading the page prompts the client application to obtain a new token.
- Sign back in - Log back into your ArcGIS Online or enterprise portal account.
- If you are a GIS developer:
- Ensure your application implements automatic token refresh handlers.
- Verify token generation parameters and expiration intervals in your ArcGIS server configuration.
