A 424 Failed Dependency error is an HTTP WebDAV status code indicating that the method could not be performed on the resource because the requested action depended on another action that failed.
In WebDAV batch operations or transactional APIs, multiple requests are executed in sequence. If Step 1 fails, all subsequent steps that depend on Step 1 are aborted with a 424 status.
Determining why
- In a multi-file copy or move transaction, a parent directory could not be created, causing all nested file operations to fail dependency checks.
- In automated API pipelines, a secondary action failed because the primary record failed creation.
Steps you could possibly take:
- Review the parent error - Check the server’s multi-status response (
207 Multi-Status) to find out which initial operation failed. - Resolve the primary failure - Fix the root cause of the initial failed command (such as incorrect permissions or missing parameters) and retry the batch operation.
