A Cloudflare Error 1002 indicates that Cloudflare refused to route a request because the destination DNS record resolves to a prohibited private IP address or the requested path has been restricted by policy.
Common causes
Cloudflare Error 1002 occurs in two distinct scenarios:
- DNS points to Prohibited IP: An
AorAAAArecord in your Cloudflare DNS app resolves to an internal, private, or loopback IP address (such as127.0.0.1,0.0.0.0,10.x.x.x,192.168.x.x, or Cloudflare’s own network). - Restricted URI: A Cloudflare Worker or request rule attempted to access a URI that has been prohibited or restricted by policy.
Resolution
If you are not the website owner
Contact the website administrator and inform them of the Error 1002 notice.
If you are the website owner
- For DNS issues: Log into Cloudflare > DNS. Update the IP address to your web hosting provider’s public-facing IP address. Do not use local loopback or private subnet addresses for proxied records.
- For Workers / Restricted issues: Review your Cloudflare Workers scripts or custom routing rules to verify that external fetch calls are not attempting to access restricted internal endpoints.
