A Cloudflare Error 1001 occurs when a visitor attempts to access a domain on Cloudflare, but Cloudflare’s edge network cannot find any valid DNS records mapping the request to an active origin server.
Common causes
A request reached Cloudflare’s edge network, but Cloudflare was unable to resolve a valid DNS destination record for the domain name.
This typically occurs when:
- A domain was deleted or removed from a Cloudflare account while DNS nameservers still point to Cloudflare.
- An unproxied CNAME record points to an external domain that does not exist.
- The domain name has expired at the registrar.
Resolution
If you are not the website owner
The website’s DNS configuration is broken. You must wait for the site owner to restore their DNS records.
If you are the website owner
- Log into your Cloudflare dashboard and verify that the domain is Active.
- Verify in the DNS app that your domain and subdomains have valid
AorCNAMErecords pointing to your active web host. - If you recently changed domain registrars, verify that your nameserver delegation is intact.
